About the Artist

Kayla Gomez is a ceramic artist from O’ahu, Hawai’i, who graduated with a BA in Art Studio from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa in 2016. She has worked in ceramics studios across Kailua (Hawai’i), Dublin (Ireland), and Washington DC. Raised in a home connected to her Mexican roots, Kayla’s creativity was nurtured from a young age.

In addition to her studio work, she collaborated with local coffee shops in Honolulu to create custom cups. In 2022, Kayla was selected for an artist residency in Brooklyn, New York, where she explored themes of "nurture" and "tropical fruit." She now teaches handbuilding ceramics to both adults and children.

Her work, which ranges from sculptural to functional, is inspired by natural textures, traditional Mexican pottery, forest and sea creatures, and a desire to evoke joy.
