Broken Cassette, Volume 1 is a collaborative release from Lōʻihi Records featuring compositions by T.J. Keanu Tario, Gahlord Dewald, and others. Each track was created independently over the same drone, using analog synthesizers and recorded on a four-track cassette recorder. The artists did not hear each other's work during production, resulting in a unique, surprise-filled album that blends elements of variation on a theme with the unpredictability of exquisite corpse.
